I wish him luck, poor guy. Exercise has been shown to NOT be a significant factor in permanent weight loss. Maintenance yes, but not loss. From his journal, it's evident his weight is doing some serious damage to his feet and joints.
For anyone out there with some weight to lose, I would recommend the GI Diet. It's meant for the long term (as in the rest of your life!), and as such is nutritionally sound and heart-healthy. As you get closer to your BMI ideal weight, you can gradually include more physical activity and move to phase 2.
I've lost 53 lbs so far, have 39 lbs left to go. Blood pressure has been steadily creeping up to 145/100, last checked it was down to 120/80.
