"Yesterday’s Directors Guild Awards nominations managed to shake up the Oscar race by including David Fincher for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo over The Tree of Life‘s Terrence Malick and War Horse‘s Steven Spielberg."
I haven't seen enough of the contenders to have an opinion about that comparison, but I was impressed with what Fincher did with Dragon Tattoo in terms of pacing, dramatic tension, and especially atmosphere.
On the other hand, there are some problems with the script, and those problems were not present in the book or in the Swedish version of the film. Should the director bear some responsibility for allowing that to happen?
