Act of Valor (the Navy SEAL re-creation) was the surprise winner. The very fact that it finished first was surprising enough, but the real shocker was the fact that it won going away, grossing more than the next two films added together. It should be pointed out that this film is a textbook example of the gap between film critics and mainstream audiences. Many critics found this film laughable, but the CinemaScore grade from opening night audiences was an "A." Critics found it corny, mindlessly reverent, and jingoistic. Audiences did not really disagree - but that's exactly what they liked about it! One St. Louis critic summed up this disconnection perfectly: "These are the dudes who killed Bin Laden and take down Somali pirates for breakfast, so to see the real guys in action, even in a movie as ridiculous as this, is a sight to behold."
Tyler Perry's Whatever Tyler Perry is Doing This Time finished a disappointing second, and seems to be headed for a weekend total some 20% below expectations.
The Jennifer Aniston comedy is headed for a disaster. It grossed only $2 million on Friday, finishing 8th. (Maybe they should try it again next week WITH the Aniston titties?)
Disappointing though it may have been, Aniston's film seemed like the second coming of Star Wars compared to the Amanda Seyfried thriller, which sold only one ticket, to Amanda's loving auntie. OK, that may be an exaggeration, but the facts are almost as depressing. It took in only $1.6 million in 2200 theaters, which left it far behind the SECOND weekend of that immortal cinema masterpiece, Ghost Rider 2.

Here's some advice: Never let the audience know that some never-before-seen celebrity breasts are being kept from them. Remember what happened with The Island when Bay openly admitted that he decided not to show Scarlett Johansson's boobies? It was the worst bomb in Bay's career.
