Weekend Box Office Results for August 18-20

• Ouch. Turkeys on a Plane is more like it. Dragged down by the colossal failure of the reptilians, the box office dropped about 20% from last weekend, and was 9% below last year - following a streak in which 11 of the past 12 weekends have beaten last year. Ouch.
• The Snakes finished with about half of their anticipated revenues.
• To be fair, nobody really knew how to predict Snakes because it has no real comps. HOWEVER, the predictions were perfectly sensible. The box office needed to be about $15 million higher to retain its the 6% edge over last year from the previous week. All the other films were right about on target, but Snakes was short almost exactly the missing $15 million!
• All that worked out great for ol' Ricky Bobby, who took the checkered flag for a third straight week!
