Weinstein titles leak to other rental stores Despite studio's exclusivity deal with BlockbusterSpeaking as a former retailer, I can tell you that this type of exclusivity is absolutely impossible to enforce, even if the courts rule that it does not violate any antitrust laws. There is nothing to stop the small retailers or the buyers from Hollywood Video and Netflix from simply buying out Wal-Mart's entire stock when they stock the new titles each Tuesday morning, and that probably won't cost much more than buying through their normal distributor, because Wal-Mart's profit margins on new titles are ridiculously low for the initial period. (Many small retailers routinely find it cheaper to buy many products from Wal-Mart than from their wholesaler.)
