Sometimes the ball bounces funny. None of the new releases performed according to expectations. Wild Hogs far exceeded the predictions (despite poor reviews), while the Fincher film and the naked Ricci flick fell far short of predictions (despite good to excellent reviews). Shows you how irrelevant critics are.The overall box office was more than 25% above last year, but that's misleading. Last year's was a disastrous weekend. This year is actually slightly below the comparable weekend in 2005, so the increase over last year is not really something to crow about. It was an OK weekend, no better. Although a phenomenal ten million dollar surplus was picked up by Wild Hogs (compared to forecasts), the other two new releases lost seven of it.
