Criminal mastermind of the day: Robber steals two cartons of smokes with an AK-47, leaves behind the gun shop receipt.

At the Hess gas station, someone noticed that the suspect left behind a gun case leaning against a display rack. Inside, deputies found a receipt for a new AK-47 assault rifle from a nearby gun shop, arrest records show. The $439 bill from Universal Weapons was made out to Eric Cunningham and listed his address in a gated Hunter's Creek community, according to interviews with the gun shop and deputies.

Stop and think a minute. This guy would be an idiot even if he had NOT left the receipt behind. His business expenses: $439, plus the risk of a long, long jail term to rob a convenience store - an endeavor which promises maybe $75 cash, plus smokes and Slim Jims! Even if he gets away scot-free, he's out $300 bucks!

"Obviously, he wasn't a member of the Mensa society," said sheriff's Cpl. Susan Soto.
