DAILY FILM DOSE: A Daily Film Appreciation and Review Blog: THE LONG TAKE

The greatest long tracking shots in film history - with some videos.
One of Tarkovsky's is included, but it's a yawner. A far more impressive one is the siege of the church in Andrei Rublov, which involves people in three different elevations - all at different distances from the camera - and a gazillion guys on horseback, all shot in one smooth pan. Because of the way the shot is planned, the riders disappear from the shot, then re-appear later when they reach the top of a hill.
