I sympathize completely with Buckner. Shit happens. I pulled a Buckner myself in the championship round of the Dallas city softball leagues back in the 80s. Playing third base, I dropped a line drive which would have been the final out in our victory. I picked it up cleanly and quickly and made an accurate throw, but a speedy runner beat it out and we went on to lose the game. Did I choke? Maybe. It was a real rocket shot, but it was right at my face, so it was totally routine. Give me 100 chances at that play right now, even as an old man, and I think I would probably make every one.

And if I still think occasionally about a game with about 30 spectators, I can imagine how Buckner must feel.
