Leo the Listmaker's Pop Culture Palace is updated , as the 1964 countdown continues
1964 was a year of transition between the old culture and the British Invsion, and the music still reflects diversity. These five songs represent Caifornia surfin' (Beach Boys), Engish New Wave (Beatles), New York Folk (Dylan), and Motown (Four Tops and Drifters). The Beatles were about to take over the music scene completely. In April of 1964 they had the top five songs on the charts. No other artist(s) ever accomplished that, before or since.
