In general, new releases did fine, hold-overs tanked. The three new releases were expected to do $38.9m, actually did $40.7m (up 5%). The carry-overs were expected to do $94.8m, did only $82.8m (down 12%). The numbers came in below the predictions (see table below), but were completely consistent with the past two years (see graph below). The prognosticators thought that this year would do better than the usual trend because of the presence of three blockbuster carry-overs. The public was apparently blockbustered out.Small notes: (1) It appears that Waitress is not a phenomenon at all. Its luster has already faded. (2) If Gracie has an audience, it never found one. (That's the movie in which Elisabeth Shue plays Elisabeth Shue's mother and nobody plays Kevin Costner.)
