Weekend Box Office Results for July 27–29, 2007
The Simpsons kicked ass and brought everyone else with it. The Simpsons beat the estimates by some 40%, and the overall box office was 47% over last year's equivalent week.

The film's creators made the right decision by making a family-friendly movie rather than the harder one that they considered. Sitting next to me on my right was a woman with a 2-year-old in her lap. That kid loved the movie - was laughing constantly. Sitting next to me on the other side were my niece, my daughter and two college-age guys, all of whom had a good time. I did too. It's not a brilliant, edgy movie like the South Park film. It's basically just a long episode of the TV show - which seems to be exactly what people wanted. (Except I would have preferred more of Mr Burns and Krusty, and MUCH less of Flanders.)

The other new films all performed at or above expectations, although expectations were modest for the bottom-dwellers.
