Other Crap

Silly baseball records for the day
(1) What is the record for best stolen base percentage, forty or more steals? (2) What is the record for worst stolen base percentage, 15 or more caught stealing?

Answer 1: Max Carey stole 51 bases in 1922 and was only caught twice. Ichiro made a real run at this 85-year-old record last year, finishing 45-2

  • If you lower the bar to 30 SB, it's a tie between Brady Anderson and Carlos Beltran, who posted identical 31-1 seasons.
  • Lowering the bar to SB, the record is held by Kevin McReynolds, who stole 21 times in 1988 without ever being caught. (Molitor also had a 100% season, with 20 for 20 in 1994).

Answer 2: Will Clark stole five bases in 1987 and was caught 17 times, 22.7%

  • The record for most caught stealing in a single season without a successful steal is 10, set by Pete Runnels in 1952.
