ROTTEN TOMATOES: Opening Movies

ROTTEN TOMATOES: Opening Movies
How bad a week is it when Mr Bean has the second highest rating among the new releases at Rotten Tomatoes?

War - 2200 theaters - no reviews yet - action movie with Jet Li and Jason Statham.

The Nanny Diaries - 1800 theaters - 18% positive reviews. Chick-flick.

Mr Bean: 90 Minutes of Goofy Faces - 1580 theaters - 48% positive reviews. 48%!!!??? That's gotta be a misprint, right? I think I've pointed out in the past that no matter how preposterous an idea seems, some people will believe it. I suppose if Dick Cheney can think the insurgency was in its last throes, a reviewer can applaud the inane pratfalls and lazy mugging of Bean-based entertainment.

Resurrecting the Champ - 1550 theaters - 80% positive reviews. Apparently another great bit of character acting from Samuel L, who's a damned good actor when he's not being a blustery, outraged, cocky-ass motherfucker. (And entertaining even when he is being that guy.)

September Dawn - 850 theaters - 14% positive reviews - Indie Western

Illegal Tender - 480 theaters - no reviews yet. Urban crime drama.

  1. 58% for Mr. Bean is like 90% for a normal Hollywood movie. The critics who hate it, hate it for the reason that the people who like Mr. Bean like Mr. Bean;
    and the critics who like it, like it for the same reason people who hate Mr. Bean will like it.

    It's a win-win situation...

    Right?
