Resident Evil: Extinction. 2800 theaters, no reviews yet. You can probably predict that it will score about 25% positive reviews overall, but will probably be close to 0% from the "cream of the crop." The first RE film was 33/19, and the second one was 21/8. (Some of the genre sites like them, but mainstream critics are almost universal in their disdain.)
Sydney White. PG-13 college comedy targeting tweeners. (High concept: it's a modern version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.) 1900 screens. 33% positive reviews.
Jesse James. Preview run for the new Brad Pitt film. 15 theaters. 82% positive reviews.
The Jane Austen Book Club. Self explanatory. 24 theaters. 60% positive reviews.
Across the Universe. Julie Taymor's 60s-psychedelic-style Beatles musical is the arthouse pick of the week. 276 theaters. 51% positive reviews, but critics were sharply divided on its merits.
There will also be a sneak preview of The Rock's new family comedy, Game Plan, on Saturday night. 800 screens. No reviews.
