Sabathia finally beats Beckett after two head-to-head losses in the post-season. Kind of a surprise. The two were dead even in stats, but everyone seemed to think Beckett had a lock on it.I haven't checked the history books, but I'd say this has to be the first time in history that a Cy Young winner had a teammate with as many wins and a lower ERA!
A tip of the hat to Erik Bedard who finished fifth in the voting and went 13-5 while pitching for the Orioles, an achievement about equal in difficulty to the raising of Lazarus.
Bedard was outstanding. It's a shame his season was cut short. Would have been interesting to see where the voters would have placed him had he finished it.
