Johnny Depp Has Been Named ‘Top Money-Making Star of 2007′

Johnny Depp Has Been Named ‘Top Money-Making Star of 2007

"for the first time in 24 years, a female actress was not included on the top-ten list."

A "female actress"? What other kinds of actresses are there?

"The Quigley Poll, which has been conducted every year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture exhibitors, which asks them to vote for the ten stars that they believe generated the most box-office revenue in the preceding year for their theaters."

It's not scientific, of course. I don't believe that most of these people can automatically generate revenues just by headlining a picture. George Clooney is #3, and pretty much nobody went to see The Good German.

It seems to me that there are three people on the list whose names automatically put butts in the seats: Depp and the two Wills, Smith (in anything) and Ferrell (in comedies only). Russell Crowe, for example? I dunno. Terrific screen personality, but does his name automatically add a lot to the box office? Doubtful.

Jim Carrey might possibly get back on the list if he concentrated on being funny again. I don't think he's an automatic draw as a dramatic performer, but he's still close to the all-time best guest on talk shows and award shows.

I was sorta suprised to see John Cusack was NOT on the list. A lot of women I know go to any movie he is in, sight unseen.
