Barack hit his nadir just before his speech on race, when Hillary pulled ahead 49-42. Since then, all the bad news has come Hillary's way and Obama has steadily ascended to his current 52-42 lead, his largest of the year.In the contest against McCain, the Democrats are down by similar amounts (48-44, 47-44). While voters seem to shift radically between Obama and Clinton for the primary favorite, the general election margins don't vary much from time to time. None of the candidates have been below 43 or above 48, and none of them have held a statistically meaningful edge. Obama has been especially consistent, polling exactly at 44% in 14 of the last 18 polls, and never going more than a point higher or lower than that.
Please note that this is based on all registered voters, and not on LIKELY voters.
