Weekend Box Office Results for March 21–23, 2008

Weekend Box Office Results for March 21–23, 2008

As I mentioned last week, this week lacked a strong champion and had no prayer to equal last year, finishing 21% behind.

Adding to the predictable woes, Meet the Browns and Drillbit Taylor finished some 15% behind their estimates.

There were some small positive surprises:

  • For the second straight week, the Bank Job did the best job of holding its audience.
  • Shutter, a remake of a Thai horror film, performed about 50% better than expected, grossing enough to finish a surprising third for the week.
  • Under the Same Moon, the heart-tugger which was only in 266 theaters, took in so much per screen that it improbably made the top ten. The illegal immigration drama took the #10 spot by nudging out Doomsday, which was in seven times as many theaters!
