Wang outpitches Halladay to win the very last home opener in Yankee Stadium
With the closing of the stadium comes the closing of the sports symbol of my entire life and my dad's. I am an old fart, but the first home opener in Yankee Stadium, which featured a Babe Ruth homer, was played when my own dad was not yet two years old. Ruth went on to inaugurate the stadium that year with career highs in batting average (.393) and on-base percentage (.545), while leading the Yankees to a World Series championship and winning a league MVP award. In so doing, he proved that his great hitting was not just a fluke created by the 251-foot left field fence in the Polo Gounds.

The Yankees are an incredible 58-26 in those openers.
