Here's a great bar bet:
Who holds the all-time record for the highest lifetime batting average among players in 500 or more games?Answer: relief pitcher Terry Forster batted .397 - and that includes four seasons when he batted zero! Forster is the same guy David Letterman used to call "the big fat tub of goo." His lifetime batting average in the AL was .480, but he screwed that up by hitting only .358 in the NL. He went into his final season with a lifetime average of .419, but blew his chance to retire as the only lifetime .400 hitter to have appeared in 500 or more games. In fact, he was still over .400 until his final at bat!
