Daily Box Office for Friday, July 18, 2008

The Dark Knight tears it up again with $24 million on a Monday. That's only the fourth-best Monday of all time, but the other three were part of a four-day weekend. The previous record for a non-holiday Monday was about $18m, from Pirates 2 which, for some reason I have forgotten, was released the weekend AFTER the 4th of July weekend. (Maybe it was to avoid direct competition with Superman Returns). The next best after that is only about $11 million, from the first Spider-Man. (That is in 33rd place among all Mondays. All the others not mentioned opened on holiday weekends for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Christmas, or New Year's Day.)

The all-tme record for the fastest to $200 million is 8 days. The Dark Knight has $183 million in FOUR days.
