cbs2.com - CBS Evening News Anchor Katie Couric Goes Behind The Scenes With Joe Biden

Joe Biden: "When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, 'look, here's what happened.'"

We may have found a national candidate more ignorant than Bush! Biden's speeches could be used for those puzzles where you have to find as many errors as possible. For starters:

  1. The stock market crashed in 1929. It would have been difficult for Roosevelt to communicate via television, since his first appearance on TV was at the NY Worlds Fair in 1939. Basically, TVs were not commonly owned until after WW2, which was also after FDR had passed away.
  2. But even if he had been able to broadcast, nobody would have cared very much since Herbert Hoover was the POTUS at the time. Roosevelt was not elected president until three years later!

  1. Your technicalities are entirely accurate, but it was Roosevelt and the New Deal policies that he instituted that are credited for ending the Great Depression.(that and WW2) It is true that he wasn't on TV but he was on every radio/ movie news reel and did make these speaches.
