Weekend Box Office Results for September 5–7, 2008

Weekend Box Office Results for September 5–7, 2008

Tropic Thunder came very, very close to becoming a 4-time champion. It finished second by a mere $300,000 to the new Nic Cage film. The Cage film, in its turn, was some 15% below expectations which were modest to begin with. There were no other surprises.

It was a dismal weekend, even by the reduced standards of the post-Labor Day period. The $7.8 million for Bangkok Dangerous is the lowest total for a #1 movie since 2003, when Dickie Roberts took the top slot with $6.6m on the exact same dates (Sept 5-7). The top twelve grossed only $51.6 million. That is also the lowest since the notorious Dickie Roberts Weekend, when the top twelve barely cleared $50m.
