Who turned down James Bond? Neo? The Sundance Kid? Gandalf?The big winners: Bob Redford and New Line Cinema. If Connery had taken the deal they offered him for Lord of the Rings, he could have pocketed something like $400 million dollars, and probably would not have added a single penny to the box office. New Line got to put almost all of that money in their own pockets.
