Today "Scoop's tips for youngsters" steps aside so we can offer a tip for you OLDsters. If you get a lot of grief about being old and want to prove that you're still young enough to be in touch, you might want to tread lightly on the word "cockamamie." Just imagine you're playing The Family Feud and the category is "words used by old people." Don't use those.As a shortcut, just think back to when the Lone Ranger used to go into town disguised as The Ol' Prospector. Remember which words he would use. Avoid them. In addition to "cockamamie," you might try to keep these words and phrases out of your vocab:
- Whippersnapper
- Oh my stars and garters.
- Mercy me
- By cracky
- Scalawag
- Well, I never
- Sidewinder
