I wish this was from The Onion, but it is real story. It happened at 5 AM, as they opened the doors. The guy was only 34 years old.

"Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him."

I saw this same kind of insanity when I lived in Vienna, and it happened every single Saturday morning. There was basically one place to shop on Saturday, a massive hypermarket south of the city. By the time their doors opened on Saturday morning, there would be a sea of people and shopping carts pressed up against the doors and against the people in front of them. Everyone would start pushing forward as the doors opened. A very scary side of human behavior.
