Cadillac Records, buoyed by some enthusiastic reviews, reached a bit above its limited expectations and actually finished first in revenues per theater for those films in 100 theaters or more.Nobel Son was expected to bomb, but did so in spectacular fashion. It is in record territory, headed for the bottom ten among films in 600 or more theaters.
Punisher will come in below even modest expectations. It failed to reach two million Friday, against a weekend prediction in the $7-10 range.
Overall it was a terrible Friday, but that's typical for the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend. It was made even worse by the complete absence of major new releases and/or blockbuster carry-overs.
