The three new films performed radically, in each case differing subnstantially from expectations, with a little in each direction. The good news belonged to Cadillac Records, which doubled expectations. The bad news went to Punisher: War Zone, which had the 8th worst opening of all time among films in 2500 or more theaters.
The incredibly bad news belonged to Nobel Son, which could muster only $371,000 in three days, thus making Punisher: War Zone seem like Gone With the Wind in comparison! That amounted to $138 per theater per day. Assuming ten bucks per ticket - 14 people per theater per day. Assuming 4 shows, that means the average audience size was approximately three. That was the third worst opening in history for films in 800 or more theaters, and only one of the other two was released in the past 15 years!
