I don't have a lot of nitpicking to do this year. It's difficult to dispute most of the choices. If forced to choose winners, I would have picked Mickey Rourke, Danny Boyle and Slumdog Millionaire, same as they did. My only major dispute would be with the selection of Vicky Cristina Barcelona over In Bruges for Best Comedy or Musical, for two reasons which I feel to be quite convincing: (1) VCB is neither funny nor musical; (2) VCB is nowhere near as good a movie as In Bruges. Not even close. But, let's face it, the Globes treat that as a throwaway category anyway, and neither of those films will be nominated for Best Picture by The Big O, so it's just a way to honor screen legend Woody Allen, who is much beloved by the foreign press people who run this shindig.John Adams and 30 Rock won most of the TV awards, and I don't have much quarrel with that either.
- Oddity: Kate Winslet was picked as the best actress and the best supporting actress!
- Nudity: The best TV actress (Anna Paquin) and best supporting actress (Kate Winslet for The Reader) also placed high on our Best Nude Scenes list. Paquin, in fact, finished first.
