Alex Rodriguez, A-Rod of New York Yankees on steroid allegations - ESPN

Did A-Rod start taking steroids in high school?

I don't know that, of course, but I have pointed out that he seems to be lying about having started to use roids in Texas. His story makes no sense. He supposedly took steroids after signing a big contract, when it didn't matter, but did not use them in order to get that contract in the first place? Tell me another one.

But the really damning evidence is that his level of play was actually a little worse in Texas then it had been in Seattle, a fact which was disguised by his move from an extreme pitcher's park which depressed his home OPS by about 15%, to an extreme hitter's park which lifted his home OPS by about the same 15%. The key fact is that if he started using steroids in Texas, he was using a special kind that make one worse at baseball!

Here are his ROAD numbers during his three years in Texas (BA, OPS)

  • .276 .927
  • .277 .927
  • .282 .971

Those are the numbers of a completely consistent good power hitter, but not a superior one. Now here are his road numbers in his last three years in Seattle, just prior to his stint in Texas:

  • .335 1.022
  • .286 .968
  • .356 1.135

Those are the numbers of a better player! So A-Rod wants us to believe that he started taking roids when he arrived in Texas and they made him a worse player. You believe that? Not me.
