I met her at a magazine industry convention in the early to mid 80s, at the very tail end of her period of fame. I was invited to be on the retailer panel for a Q and A, and she was some kind of special guest or something. It was a pleasant event held at a resort in Florida, and the evening's amusement was an outdoor barbecue with laid-back tunes and a serious booze flow into the wee hours. Everyone had a great time except Marilyn, who sat all night at a separate picnic table and talked only to the woman she came with. Earlier, when I met her face to face, she didn't even offer so much as a "nice ta meetcha." It wasn't just me. When she was introduced to people, she just grunted and stared.
