Former Red Sox star Dom DiMaggio dies at 92 - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe

Former Red Sox star Dom DiMaggio, the Little Professor, dies at 92

I'm sure you know who his most famous brother was, but Dom was also a terrific player. He was a seven-time all-star, but was not a power hitter like brothers Joe and Vince. At 165 pounds, he wasn't really constructed for slugging, but he was an excellent lead-off man for the powerful BoSox teams of the 40s and early 50s. Despite poor eyesight, he had a lifetime batting average of .298 (with an excellent .383 OBP - about the same as Tony Gwynn), and was considered as good a center fielder as either of his brothers. He was also speedy, having once led the AL in triples, runs scored, and stolen bases in the same year. He also hit .328 that year, third in the league.
