ROTTEN TOMATOES: Opening This Week

ROTTEN TOMATOES: Movies Opening This Week

  • The Proposal; 2900 theaters. A combination of a rom-com and a "mismatched buddy" pic, with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in the leads. Bullock plays an obnoxious, high-powered Canadian exec working in America. She is in danger of being deported, so she browbeats her timid American assistant (Reynolds) into marrying her. I'm pretty sure you can figure out how that works out, both in the short and long term. The reviews so far are reasonably good: 69% positive.

(In real life, Reynolds is the Canadian, and he's married to an American, Scarlett Johansson.)

  • Year One; also 2900 theaters. Michael Cera and Jack Black play hunter/gatherers who are a lot like Michael Cera and Jack Black. The lads are banished from their village for being testosterone-challenged and are thus forced to wander the ancient world, where they interact with familiar Old Testament characters in familiar biblical places, and even get to see the very beginning of Cher's farewell tour. There are only three reviews so far. Surprisingly, they are all "fresh"! I guess it must be much better than it sounds.

Then again, it would have to be.
