San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Angels - Box Score - June 13, 2009 - ESPN

Torii Hunter poles three

Torii is having a helluva year. So far, he's producing offense at the best rate of his career by far. He's hitting .321 and is on pace for 45 homers and 137 RBI. His career highs are .289, 31, 107 - all in different years. In the last five years his OPS has never been below .789 or above .839. This year he's at an impressive 1.027 after his homer outburst Saturday. That's about a 20%-25% increase in his run production, which is impressive, more or less as steep an increase as produced by Raul Ibanez.

Ibanez is almost a perfect clone of Torii in terms of career offensive stats (excluding stolen bases), as well as in terms of recent production. In the last five years his OPS has gone from a low of .791 to a high of .869. This year he's at an astronomical 1.058, second best in the National League behind Senor Sluggo from Krypton. The Phillies have to be pleased with that pick-up.
