Weekend Box Office Results for June 26–28, 2009

Weekend Box Office Results for June 26–28, 2009

The Weekend Warrior made uncannily accurate predictions for the two new wide releases. He thought they would combine for $123.8m and they may hit that exact number when the final numbers are tallied Monday. It will be extremely close either way.

Transformers kicked some serious ass with $112m. It is tracking with The Dark Knight, and also mirrored the Batfilm in terms of the marketing studies, but I find it hard to believe that it can hold that pace in the long run. We're talking about a movie with 20% positive reviews, versus 90-something% for The Dark Knight. Transformers has to start falling behind eventually.

Surprisingly, the week was only 9% higher than last year, when the 1-2 punch of Wall-E and Wanted took in about as much as The Transformers 2. While Transformers was a powerhouse star this weekend, it had no supporting cast.
