The new Potter film has run behind the previous film for the last seven days, after winning the comparison in the first seven. That has narrowed its edge to about five or six percent over Potter 5. One reader wrote in to tell me that the new film had a later start for its IMAX 3D wide release. The previous Potter opened in IMAX at the same time as in standard theaters, while the new one just opened for wide release on IMAX yesterday, two weeks after its debut. The IMAX results should theoretically create a bump in the chart, but the precise size of that bump remains to be seen.Prior to the Wednesday opening on IMAX, the new Potter had grossed $229m in 14 days, which makes it #5 for the year. It will not beat Transformers for the annual trophy, but will probably be in the #2 slot when the summer season ends.

Harry Potter 6 loses to Harry Potter 5 for the seventh straight day, pins hopes on IMAX
Harry Potter slows down
There's a good reason: the new one sucks. They alienated the core readers, which was incredibly stupid. The first misstep they've made with these films. They removed the huge battle at the end of the film, and thus made the entire story kind of silly. (Everything the villains do in the film was to enable them to have the battle at the end...no battle, no point in the entire effort.)
ReplyDeletehalf blood prince break the all previous record. IMAX create a bump.
