Tyler Perry's film did well and ended up with surprisingly good reviews.9 did respectably well from only 1600 theaters.
The other two new releases bombed almost identically. Whiteout's bomb produced a slightly louder explosion since it was expected to do better than Sorority Row, for which there was never any hope.
Overall the box office was off about 8% from last year's comp, which also had four new releases including a Tyler Perry film! Last year all four did fairly well. They took the top four slots and together they grossed more than $62 million, compared to only $45 million from this year's foursome.
