Joe Torre's mysterious decision to start youngster Clayton Kershaw looked like an act of genius for four innings in which the Phillies could do nothing, but the kid fell apart in the fifth when he gave up three walks and three wild pitches, which gave the Phils an opening to flex their muscles.Kershaw made 30 starts during the regular season, of which the Dodgers won only 14. Their .433 percentage (14-16) in those games was substantially worse than the .614 mark (81-51) they achieved with other starters.
