It was an exceptionally good weekend. Grosses were up 35% from last week and were more than 50% higher than the comparable period last year. In fact, it was the second-best weekend since July 24th!Where the Wild Things Are and Law-Abiding Citizen both performed well, but the real phenomenon was Paranormal Activity, which took in $26,530 per screen, almost exactly the same average as the first week of The Blair Witch Project, and greater than or equal to such blockbusters as Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Shrek 2, Transformers 2, and all the Harry Potter films. It was the 13th highest "average per theater" of all time.
