Wrestler, personality Captain Lou Albano dies at 76 - CNN.com

RIP, Captain Lou Albano, dead at 76

Old-time wrestling was filled with fringe characters, and "Cap'n" Louis Vincent Albano was out there as far as anyone. At the height of his popularity, he made it chic to look homeless.

He made his wrestling debut way back in 1953, after brief stints in the Army and at the University of Tennessee. His career as a wrestler was one of only moderate distinction, but he eventually hit paydirt as an evil manager, guiding a long string of no-goodniks to mostly unsuccessful assaults on the championship held for the better part of 14 years by Albano's legendary arch-enemy, Bruno Sammartino.
