News of the Weird: California's Death Row: Bigger cells, better privacy, more stuff, and almost no chance of being executed! - Yahoo! News

California convict begs for the death sentence

"Johnson was so eager to be put on death row that he tried to confess to two murders that no one yet knew about."

No, he didn't want to repent and die. Here's the deal: if you go to Death Row you get all kinds of amenities that other prisoners don't get: a private cell, better visiting privileges, etc. And, California being what it is, they never actually execute anyone. (Only 13 in the last 32 years).
