Avatar took in $73m, approximately as expected. That beat all of the Lord of the Rings films and every other December opener except I Am Legend.Meanwhile, Hugh Grant and SJP bombed atomic style, with only $7 million in 2700 theaters, which was about half of what the experts predicted. Hughie in a cowboy hat? I guess America just wasn't ready for that rootin'-tootin' buccaroo.
