Tomorrow, Avatar will become the #1 movie of all time in terms of total international revenues. It will eventually pass two billion and will establish a very comfortable lead over Titanic. It now seems to be distinctly possible that Avatar will also become #1 domestically, a feat which heretofore seemed inconceivable. Titanic finished at $600m. Avatar has now reached $552 million with plenty of gas left in the tank. In fact, it shows few signs of slowing down. It won the weekend again - convincingly, taking in more than the next two films added together. It continued to break record after record. This time it beat the old record for "best sixth weekend," and it did so by more than 40%!As for the new films:
The Tooth Fairy bombed by failing to reach expectations. Despite appearing in 3344 theaters, it grossed only $14.5m and finished fourth. Extraordinary Measures did even worse, although in that case it was no surprise. It took in a weak $7m, despite a 2500+ theater rollout. Legion did fairly well, taking in $18.2 million, which was good enough for second place behind Avatar.
