Bernie Carbo, former Red Sox World Series hero, says that in more than a thousand big league games, he was high in every game but one.

Thus falling one short of Mantle's perfect record.

In Carbo's defense, he would have gotten high that other day, but he was too hungover to find his stash.

  1. reminds me of Daryl Porter when he was with KC and the Cardinals. He claimed to be drunk the whole time when he won the world series MVP. Only he was a catcher. How can you catch 95 mph fastballs and curves in the dirt when you are wasted? I can barely play softball when I'm drunk.
