I don't have any strong objection to that. You might make a good argument for several films, and Eternal Sunshine is one of them. If I had to make up such a list, I might have reached the same conclusion. Eternal Sunshine was NOT nominated for the Best Picture Oscar in 2004, but that tells you more about the Academy than it does about the movie.Another picture that might have been a valid #1 selection, Amelie, didn't make their top fifty. (???)
Here is IMDb's list, for comparison. Eternal Sunshine is 13th on the IMDb list; The Dark Knight is #1; the Lord of the Rings films are #2, #4, and #6; Amelie is #7. The IMDb top five is filled out by City of God and Memento.
Memento is the only film to make the top five on both lists.
