And it's the first time in his career he has reached that magic plateau. (He had won 19 twice.)The big fella does love the home crowd. He's 12-1 at Yankee Stadium.
He also loves the big games in late summer. He barely survives April as Clark Kent every year, but seems to come out of the phone booth as Superman in August and September. His lifetime record in August is 38-10 ... and his ERA is even lower in September/October!
Sabathia has 156 career victories. Given that he's only 30 and pitches for the Yankees, he has an outside chance to become a 300-game winner after everyone had predicted the extinction of that species. The only thing that would concern me about making a more optimistic prediction than "outside chance" is his lack of concern for physical conditioning. His official weight is 290, but his real weight would be hard to determine without one of those roadside truck scales. Last year he admitted to an interviewer that he was then 309 (with a 44-inch waist), and also said that he had gone as high as 315.
