This has been controversial, but as I see it, the solution is easy enough.

Was it funny? If yes, then they obviously didn't create it themselves.

If not .. well ... then it doesn't matter, does it?

Serious point: the controversy is fake. At the very most, the SNL sketch took a concept which was introduced in the other sketch and ran with it in a completely different direction. That is not stealing at all. It's the way ideas get developed. Having said that, I'll note that the Adult Swim sketch is short and punchy with the right touch of absurdity, and it knows when to quit. The SNL sketch is drab and obvious, and it drags on too long - which makes it obviously home-grown, since it is the same as all their other unfunny sketches.
