He must be one of the most consistent players in baseball history (and consistent at a very high level):His career HR average per year is 41. He has 41 this year. He's never gone below 32 or above 49
His career RBI average is 122. He now has 112 with ten games to play.
His OPS is 1.003 this year. His career average is 1.048.
There are actually some signs that he might be slowing just a hair at age 30. His 73 strikeouts represents the highest total since his rookie year, and his .309 batting average is the lowest of his career. So maybe he's playing at 95% of his peak level ... which is still better than pretty much anyone else. And he might not actually be losing anything with age. It may just be a slight off-year, comparable to 2007. He had only 71 extra base hits in 2007, but was back up in the 90s last year. So, who knows? Perhaps he will have a career year next year.
