So much for Oklahoma, which fell to #11 Missouri. Oregon will be a no-brainer for #1 now. They came into last night's game averaging 54 points a game - and they raised their average with 60 against UCLA. This is their first 7-0 start since ... wait for it ... 1933.Missouri will certainly jump a few places on the strength of that win and a 7-0 record.
There were no upsets among the top 18 teams playing unrated opponents, but some of the 19-25 teams will drop out of the rankings.
Among top 25s playing each other:
#4 Auburn over #6 LSU. Auburn may move into the #2 spot. They will pass Oklahoma for sure, maybe Boise State as well, even given a big Boise win over Louisiana Tech.Boise doesn't play until Tuesday, but there was some good news for them yesterday: Virginia Tech, a team Boise State defeated earlier this year, continues to roll over opponents, and will move up several places in the rankings. The stronger Virginia Tech seems to be, the more the computer system will respect Boise State for defeating them.
#16 Nebraska over #14 Oklahoma State. Both Oklahoma powerhouses fell from the undefeated ranks Saturday. Oklahoma State's defense tried to find a way to lose and finally settled on the canny strategy of allowing 51 points. Mission accomplished. It was not a good week for footballers from Oklahoma, aka the Sooner State. Whatever the hell that means.
#13 Wisconsin by one over #15 Iowa. That's close, but not as close as the series itself, which now stands 42-42-2. Based on the last two weeks, Wisconsin would probably be #2 in the nation now if they had not lost to Michigan State on October 2. So it goes.
